    Genus of 70 species of perennial trees or shrubs, native to the scrublands and rainforests of tropical and subtropical regions. Caesalpinia gilliesii is a shrub up to 3-4 m tall. Pinnate leaves, with 3-10 pairs of elliptical leaflets up to 15 cm long. In late spring it produces apical inflorescences made up of magnificent yellow flowers adorned with long red stamens. The fruits are flattened legumes 7-12 cm long, dehiscent when ripe.

    Pedoclimatic needs

    It prefers very sunny positions. Partially rustic tropical species that tolerates frosts as long as they are not too intense and prolonged up to -4°/-6°c. It adapts to all types of soil, even stony and poor ones, as long as it is not too compact. It resists wind and salt and is also very resistant to drought, allowing it to be grown in gardens without water.
