Genus of over 400 species of climbers with mostly evergreen tendrils and some annual, perennial, shrubby or arboreal. They live in woods, on rocks or in prairies in tropical America and Asia, Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific Islands. Passiflora mollissima is a fast-growing climber with moderately branched, thin, downy stems. The ovate-oblong leaves, with soft white fluff, green, have heart-shaped bases and 3 large toothed lobes. From mid-summer to late autumn it bears pendulous flowers, with a long, cup-shaped tube, pink to coral pink in colour; the 5 internal tepals are shorter and darker than the 5 external ones and the crown is reduced to a wrinkled purple ring. It produces oblong-ovoid, tasty, yellow edible fruits, up to 8 cm long, with very acidic gelatinous pulp.

    Pedoclimatic needs

Grow in moderately fertile, moist but well-drained soil, in sun or partial shade, protected from cold winds. Not rustic. In winter it resists up to +4°/+6°c. It can be grown in the ground in Mediterranean gardens, where temperatures do not fall below freezing. In colder climates it can be grown in pots, placed outdoors during spring and summer and sheltered during autumn and winter.
