Evergreen shrub up to 4-6 m tall, with wide foliage and twisted branches. The peltate leaves are up to 20-30 cm large. In spring it produces apical inflorescences, composed of several small yellow flowers. The fruits are trilocular capsules covered with small non-pungent growths. The shiny seeds, grey-brown in colour, are concave on one side and flat on the other and have dark mottles which resemble those of some beans in appearance. This beautiful variety has a more compact shape, with burgundy red leaves and very decorative scarlet red inflorescences and fruits.

    Pedoclimatic needs

Prefers sandy and loose soils, preferably rich, without waterlogging. This species is not rustic and cannot tolerate frosts, resisting only where temperatures do not fall below 0°C. In colder climates it behaves like an annual herbaceous, unable to survive the winter.

    Sowing

    In spring.
