Genus of about 8 species of thorny shrubs and trees, deciduous or evergreen, native to dry and rocky places in the woods and along the waterways from southern Europe to eastern Asia. Paliurus aculeatus is a deciduous shrub very branched up to 4-5 meters tall. It has flexible twigs with sharp and rigid thorns 5-8 mm long. The leaves are alternate, with a short petiole, oval, leathery and shiny green. The flowers, gathered in umbrella-shaped inflorescences, are small and yellow. The fruit is a drupe that takes on a brown color when ripe.
Pedoclimatic requirements
It adapts to any type of soil, as long as it is well drained. It likes exposure to full sun or partial shade. Rustic plant, it resists minimum temperatures reaching -8°/-10°C.
