Genus of 25 species of evergreen, aromatic shrubs and subshrubs, present in rocky, exposed, sunny and dry habitats of the Canary Islands, the Mediterranean regions, north-eastern Africa, south-western Asia and India. Lavandola angustifolia is an evergreen, perennial subshrub, up to 60 cm tall that forms small, dense and compact bushes. The opposite, aromatic leaves are grey-green, linear, 1-3 cm long and a few millimetres wide. The purple flowers appear in late spring and are very fragrant. They are gathered in a showy and compact spike inflorescence.
Pedoclimatic requirements
Poor soils, even stony and calcareous as long as they are well drained. In soils that are too rich and excessively irrigated, plants grow quickly but have a short life. It likes sunny exposure and requires very little water. Rustic species, it tolerates minimum temperatures down to -10°/-15°C.
