40x Populus nigra var. italica - cypress poplar (Offer 40 Forest Alveoli)
Genus of about 35 species of dioecious trees, mostly deciduous, of woods, valleys and marshy areas of the northern temperate regions of Europe, Asia and America. Populus nigra var. italica is a male clone with a thin, tapered crown that resembles the shape of the cypress from which it takes the common name of “cypress poplar”. A fast-growing deciduous tree, with dark bark and triangular to ovate, pointed leaves, dark green in colour, bronze when young, turning yellow in autumn. In early and mid-spring it produces catkins that are red if male or green if female. It can reach 30 m in height.
Pedoclimatic requirements
They tolerate any soil, even those temporarily saturated with water, but grow better in deep, fertile, moist but drained soil. Heliophilous species, should be planted in the sun. Due to its beautiful tapered shape, it is used to create tree-lined avenues or windbreak hedges.
