Genus of about 150 species of deciduous or evergreen trees and shrubs of Europe, Africa and northern Asia and North and Central America. Acer opalus is a medium-sized deciduous tree, up to 20-25 meters tall, characterized by a straight trunk and rounded, wide foliage. The leaves are simple, leathery with 3 or 5 lobes. In autumn they take on a pleasant golden yellow color with reddish shades. The flowers are small and yellowish-green in color. The fruit is a winged disamara.
