Genus of about 150 species of deciduous or evergreen trees and shrubs of Europe, Africa and northern Asia and North and Central America. Acer palmatum 'fire glow' is a deciduous shrub with rounded crowns that reaches a height of 2-3 m. The color of the leaves in this cultivar remains bright red throughout the growing season.

This species is very demanding regarding the nature of the soil, preferring fresh and well-drained ones with an acid reaction. It likes a partially shaded exposure.
