Genus of over 200 species of rosette-forming monocarpic perennials and succulents of desert and mountainous regions of North, Central, and South America. Agave Americana var. ProtoAmericana is very beautiful and regular, it is smaller than the common American agave and is well suited to a not very large garden. It has beautiful blue-grey leaves with thorns on the margins and at the tip. Suitable for flowerbeds and rock gardens, it reaches a maximum diameter of 120-150 cm. It resists drought.
Pedoclimatic needs
It adapts to all types of soil as long as it is well drained. It prefers full sun exposure and tolerates low temperatures down to -7°/-9°c. During the dry season it resists drought well, although it benefits from regular irrigation by waiting for the earth to dry between one irrigation and another.Botanical Information
