Agave havardiana - Havard Agave (15 cm pot)
Genus of over 200 species of perennials and monocarpic succulents forming rosettes, from the desert and mountainous regions of North, Central and South America. Agave havardiana is a medium-sized succulent plant with a single body, but more often tufted. This species, up to 100-120 cm tall, is characterized by numerous glaucous leaves, up to 50-80 cm long, of an elongated shape that form a compact rosette. The leaves have robust reddish-grey spines on the edges and at the tips. When mature, the plant produces inflorescences up to 3-4 meters tall on which the golden yellow flowers are present. After flowering, which occurs around the 15th/20th year of age, the plant dies.
Pedoclimatic needs
Prefers drained soil without stagnant water with a good content of organic matter. Grow in full sun. It adapts to being grown both in large pots and in the ground or in flowerbeds. A very rustic species, it grows on the Mexican plateaus up to and resists humidity and frosts up to -14°/- 16°c. During the dry season it resists drought well, even if it benefits from regular irrigations waiting for the soil to dry between one irrigation and the next.
