Agave montana - (18 cm pot)
Genus of over 200 species of perennials and monocarpic succulents forming rosettes, from the desert and mountain regions of North, Central and South America. Agave montana is a medium-sized succulent plant with a generally untimbered body. This species, up to 140-160 cm tall, is characterized by numerous leaves up to 50-80 cm long and wide, triangular in shape that form a compact rosette. The dark green leaves have attractive geometric designs inside and have margins and tips equipped with reddish-brown spines. When mature, the plant produces inflorescences up to 2-3 meters tall on which the golden yellow flowers are present. After flowering, which occurs around the 15th/20th year of age, the plant dies.
Pedoclimatic needs
Prefers drained soil without stagnant water with a good content of organic matter. Grow in full sun. It adapts to being grown both in large pots and in the ground or in flowerbeds. Very rustic species, it grows in the Mexican mountains up to 3500 m altitude and resists humidity and frosts up to -14°/- 16°c. During the dry season it resists drought well, even if it benefits from regular irrigations waiting for the soil to dry between one irrigation and the next.
