Genus of over 200 species of rosette-forming monocarpic perennials and succulents from the desert and mountainous regions of North America. Agave obscura has rosettes up to 40 cm in height made up of bright green leaves which have a sharp brown apical thorn at the apex. The leaf margins also have small black spines. When mature, the plant produces inflorescences 1-2 meters high on which there are yellow flowers. After flowering, which occurs around the 5th-10th year of age, this species, unlike most agaves, does not die but forms numerous axillary buds.
Pedoclimatic needs
Small sized species suitable for cultivation in pots or flowerbeds. Grow in slightly acidic, moderately fertile and well-drained soil, in full sun. Agave obscura is moderately rustic and tolerates short frosts of -2°/-4°c. During the dry season it resists drought well, although it benefits from regular irrigation by waiting for the earth to dry between one irrigation and another.Botanical Information
