Genus of over 200 species of rosette-forming monocarpic perennials and succulents from the desert and mountainous regions of North America. Agave striata is a perennial species which, unlike other agaves, does not die after flowering. This medium-sized agave forms dense groups of compact rosettes over time. The linear, rigid, more or less arched leaves, 25 to 60 cm long, have numerous longitudinal striations and are green or sometimes red-brown. At the apex of each leaf there is a small and thin black-greyish thorn. The spike-shaped inflorescence, 1.5 to 2 m high, bears a large number of yellowish flowers.
Pedoclimatic needs
Drained soil without water stagnation, preferably with good limestone content. Grow in full sun. It adapts to being grown both in pots and in the ground or in flowerbeds. Fairly rustic species, it resists short night frosts –6°/–8°C. During the dry season it resists drought well, although it benefits from regular irrigation by waiting for the earth to dry between one irrigation and another.Sowing
