Genus of over 200 species of rosette-forming monocarpic perennials and succulents of desert and mountainous regions of North and Central America. Agave stricta longifolia is a perennial species which, unlike other agaves, does not die after flowering. Medium in size, it forms large groups. It has linear, rigid, smooth-edged, more or less arched leaves, 50 to 80 cm long. The leaves, which show numerous longitudinal streaks, are green and can sometimes take on red-brown tones. At the apex of each leaf there is a small and thin black-greyish thorn. The spike-shaped inflorescence is 1.5 to 2 meters high and bears a large number of yellowish flowers.

    Pedoclimatic needs

It prefers drained soil without water stagnation, preferably with a good limestone content. Grow in full sun. It adapts to being grown both in large pots, in the ground or in flowerbeds. Moderately rustic species, it resists short frosts and minimum temperatures reaching -6°/-8°C. During the dry season it resists drought well, although it benefits from regular irrigation by waiting for the earth to dry between one irrigation and another.
