Agave titanota - agave (Square pot 9x9x10 cm)
Agave titanota - agave (Square pot 9x9x10 cm)
Genus of over 200 species of perennials and monocarpic succulents forming rosettes, from the desert and mountain regions of North and Central America. Agave titanota is a caespitose succulent plant formed by single rosettes. The glaucous green leaves are up to 50 centimeters long, fleshy with a long reddish gray spine at the apex. The marginal spines, which are generally gray, are often particularly robust and curved and make this species very popular with collectors. After 10-15 years the plant produces an inflorescence up to 3 meters high with numerous yellow flowers. After flowering the plant dies.
Pedoclimatic needs
Drained soil without stagnant water, preferably with good limestone content. Grow in full sun. It adapts to being grown both in pots and in the ground or in flowerbeds. Not very rustic species, it does not tolerate frost. Grow outdoors where temperatures do not fall below 0-2°c. During the dry season it resists drought well, even if it benefits from regular irrigation by waiting for the soil to dry between one irrigation and the next.
