Genus of over 200 species of rosette-forming monocarpic perennials and succulents of desert and mountainous regions of North and Central America. The Agave xylonacantha has wavy leaves with robust teeth at the edges and at the apex, the rosette is very beautiful and compact, up to 60-80 cm wide. The leaves range from acid green to olive green with a lighter central band and are from 40 to 80 cm long and about 10 cm wide. After 10-15 years the plant produces an inflorescence up to 2-3 m high with numerous pale yellow flowers. After flowering the plant dies. A peculiarity of this species is the formation of shoots in the axils of the leaves, while it does not produce stolons like most Agaves.

    Pedoclimatic needs

Drained soil without water stagnation, preferably with an acid PH. Grow in full sun. It is suitable for growing both in pots and in the ground or in flowerbeds. Moderately rustic species, it resists short frosts down to -6/-8°C. During the dry season it resists heat and drought well, although it benefits from regular irrigation by waiting for the earth to dry between one irrigation and another.
