Genus of 300 species of perennial evergreens with small to large rosettes of leaves. Some are shrub-like, a few arborescent. They can be found at various altitudes in the Cape Verde Islands, in tropical and southern Africa, in Madagascar and in the Arabian Peninsula. Aloe hereroensis is a succulent with short stems. The light green or greyish leaves if exposed to the sun are lanceolate, 20/30 cm long, erect and curved inwards with non-prickly toothed margins. The leaves on the outer side have white oblong markings. The plant has a solitary or sometimes clustered rosette. In summer it produces 40-60 cm long apical inflorescences of orange cylindrical flowers. It can reach 50/60 cm in height.
Pedoclimatic needs
It requires sandy and well-drained soil. It likes a dry, warm climate and should be grown in sun or partial shade. Non-rustic plant, it tolerates minimum temperatures reaching +4°/+5°c. During the dry season it tolerates drought well, but appreciates regular watering, waiting for the earth to dry between one watering and another.Botanical Information
