Genus of 300 species of perennial evergreens with small to large rosettes of leaves. Some are shrub-like, a few arborescent. They can be found at various altitudes in the Cape Verde Islands, in tropical and southern Africa, in Madagascar and in the Arabian Peninsula. Aloe Saponaria is a succulent acaule or with short stems, with rosettes of toothed, medium or dark green lanceolate leaves, 20 cm or more long with white oblong markings. The plant forms dense groups of rosettes from basal or stoloniferous suckers. In summer it bears 40-60 cm long apical panicles of red to yellow cylindrical flowers. It can reach 70 cm in height.
Pedoclimatic needs
It requires sandy and well-drained soil. It likes a dry, warm climate and should be grown in sun or partial shade. Non-rustic plant, it tolerates minimum temperatures reaching +4°/+5°C. During the dry season it tolerates drought well, but appreciates regular watering, waiting for the earth to dry between one watering and another.Botanical Information
