Genus of 300 species of perennial evergreens with small to large rosettes of leaves. Some are shrub-like, a few arborescent. They can be found at various altitudes in the Cape Verde Islands, in tropical and southern Africa, in Madagascar and in the Arabian Peninsula. Aloe vera is an evergreen succulent plant with a bushy habit formed by several rosettes up to 60-80 cm in diameter and 80-100 cm in height. Simple, lanceolate leaves, light green-greyish in color with thorns along the margins up to 40-60 cm long. It flowers in spring producing tall, thin stems that bear very decorative yellow or orange inflorescences.
Pedoclimatic needs
It requires sandy, well-drained soil with a fair amount of organic substance. It likes a dry, hot climate and should be grown in well-ventilated environments in full sun or partial shade. During the dry season it benefits from regular irrigation, although it tolerates drought well. Non-rustic plant that fears frost; minimum temperatures must not fall below 6°/7°c.Botanical Information
