Genus of about 30 species of evergreen or deciduous trees, some with bottle-shaped trunks, native to the humid or arid tropical forest of Australia and Papua New Guinea. Brachychiton discolor is a deciduous tree that can reach a height of 15-20 meters. The foliage is large and messy with lobed leaves 10-15 cm wide. The flowers are pink inside and red outside and appear gathered in inflorescences on the ends of the branches. The fruit is a semi-woody capsule covered with down.
