Genus of around 70 species of evergreen trees and shrubs native to different habitats, from Europe to Africa to Central America. The leaves are opposite, linear-lanceolate to almost rounded, entire, leathery. In spring, small, axillary, star-shaped, yellow-green flowers of both sexes appear on the same plant. Buxus sempervirens is a small evergreen tree or shrub with compact, rounded foliage. Ovate to oblong, shiny, leathery, dark green leaves, scored at the apex. Very long-lived plant that can reach 5 meters in height, but generally does not exceed 3-4 m
Pedoclimatic needs
Grow in any fertile, well-drained soil, in full sun or partial shade. They are grown primarily for their compact foliage. Ideal for creating squared hedges and borders or for creating geometric bushes ("topiaries"). Due to its adaptability to pruning into exact shapes it is certainly the symbolic plant of the Italian garden. Adult plants tolerate drought.Botanical Information
