Genus of shrubs or small deciduous trees native to the United States and Asia where they grow in woods or on the edges of waterways. This cultivar appears as a compact shrub that can reach 2 m in height. The leaves are dark green, oval, 10-12cm long. In spring it bears 6-8 cm flowers, purple in colour.
