Genus composed of approximately 13 species of ground cover succulents originating mainly from South Africa, with some representatives in North and South America and Australia. Carpobrotus edulis is a succulent naturalized on the Mediterranean coasts, with creeping stems, very long and woody at the base. It has long, thin, fleshy, pointed leaves with a dark green triangular section. In late spring, generally in May, it produces numerous flowers, up to 10/12 cm large with numerous yellow stamens in the centre. This variety is characterized by having light yellow flowers.
Pedoclimatic needs
It should be grown in full sun in loose and sandy substrates without water stagnation. It resists wind and salt, thriving along the coasts. This species is not rustic and cannot tolerate frost, resisting down to 0/-2°C. Ideal as a ground cover for waterless gardens.Botanical Information
