    Altezza della pianta: 30-40cm cm
Genus of about 50 species of arboreal or columnar perennial cacti, native to the rocky terrain of South America. Cereus peruvianus monstruosus is a columnar cactus with slightly branched green-blue stems, whose growth has degenerated due to a malformation of the apex which continually divides, creating a twisted structure. The brown areolas bear brown/black spines. In summer, the 16 cm long funnel-shaped nocturnal flowers bloom, with white sepals and petals with green, brown or red tips. The fruits are spherical, 10-12 cm in diameter, red-orange in colour. The white pulp contains numerous small black seeds. The fruits are excellent to eat and are reminiscent of pita bread and strawberries in flavour. It can reach 5-6 meters in height.

    Pedoclimatic needs

Grow in poor to moderately fertile, very well-drained, slightly acidic soil in full sun. The best soils are volcanic or siliceous; while it fears excess limescale which causes yellowing and deterioration. Slightly to moderately rustic species depending on the clones. Our selection is moderately rustic and resists short frosts down to -4°/-6°C without damage. It requires large spaces because these plants, in addition to growing in height, expand considerably over time. Ideal to grow in rock gardens or flowerbeds as an isolated specimen. Its nocturnal flowering is truly magnificent.
