    Altezza della pianta: 5-10cm cm
Genus of 50-120 species of cacti, sometimes bushy or tree-like, found in South America in different habitats. It forms low, tufty bushes composed of numerous cylindrical twigs that have up to 10 ribs and are equipped with slightly pronounced tubercles with from 10 to 12 spines. The color of the bush varies depending on exposure to the sun, in fact in normal conditions it has a light green color but with prolonged exposure to the sun's rays the color turns to bronze. The flowering period begins at the end of May and culminates at the end of July, the flowers are orange-red, funnel-shaped and develop at the apex of the areola.

    Pedoclimatic needs

It adapts to sandy and fibrous soil types, preferring well-drained ones. Watering in winter must be suspended while in spring-summer it must be carried out approximately every 7-10 days, waiting for the earth to dry between one administration and another. However, it resists drought well. It prefers an exposure in full sun or only partially shaded. Due to its limited development, it is suitable for growing both in pots and in small pockets of earth on dry stone walls or rock gardens. Partially rustic species, it resists short frosts down to -5°/-8°C. In case of strong and persistent frosts, keep the plant sheltered during the coldest periods to ensure its survival.
