Citrus paradisi - pink grapefruit (Fitocella)

Genus of about 12 species of evergreen trees and shrubs, native to the Far East. Citrus paradisi is an evergreen tree up to 5-6 meters tall. Its leaves are dark green, it produces white flowers composed of 4 petals. The globular fruit with yellow or orange skin reaches 15 cm in diameter and is composed of numerous segments. The pulp ranges from light yellow to salmon depending on the variety. It is one of the largest citrus fruits, second only to the Pomelo, as it can sometimes reach 2 kg in weight.

Pedoclimatic needs

The grapefruit, together with the fortunella, the bitter orange and the mandarin, is among the citrus fruits most resistant to the cold, resisting temperatures just below zero for short periods. They prefer loose and fertile soils, possibly with a good organic substance content and avoid excessively calcareous soils. Citrus fruits do not tolerate drought and must be watered and fertilized regularly during the dry season.
