Genus of about 45 species of shrubs and small trees mainly deciduous, originating from the northern temperate regions. Cornus florida is a shrub or small deciduous tree that reaches 3 m in height. The leaves are oval and dark green in color that turn magnificent pink - reddish shades in autumn. From March to May, at the apex of the branches, it produces numerous small inflorescences consisting of minute yellow or green flowers. The characteristic and beauty of this species is that it produces, under each inflorescence, four large heart-shaped bracts, pure white in color that look like the petals of a large flower.
Pedoclimatic requirements
It adapts to all types of soil, preferring well-drained soils with a good content of organic matter. A rustic plant that prefers exposure to the sun or partial shade and tolerates minimum temperatures down to -15°C -20°C. This species loves humidity and cannot tolerate drought: for this characteristic, during the dry season the plants must be watered regularly and frequently.
