Cornus kousa - Japanese dogwood (pink flower) (18 cm pot)

Genus of about 45 species of shrubs and small trees mainly deciduous, originating from the northern temperate regions. Cornus kousa is a shrub or small deciduous tree that reaches 5-6 m in height. The leaves are oval and dark green in color that turn magnificent pink - reddish shades in autumn. From March to May, at the tip of the branches, it produces numerous small inflorescences consisting of minute yellow or green flowers. The characteristic and beauty of this species is that it produces, under each inflorescence, four large deep pink bracts, which look like the petals of a large flower. The fruit is a very decorative red edible drupe.

Pedoclimatic requirements

It adapts to all types of soil, preferring fresh, well-drained soils rich in organic matter. It requires a position sheltered from the wind and sunny or semi-shaded exposure. A medium-hardy plant, it tolerates temperatures reaching -6°/-8°C. This species loves humidity and cannot tolerate drought: for this characteristic, during the dry season the plants must be watered regularly and frequently.
