Cotoneaster franchetii - Franchet's cotoneaster (20 seeds)
Genus of over 200 species of deciduous, evergreen trees and shrubs of the woods or rocky areas of the northern temperate regions of Europe, Asia and northern Africa. Cotoneaster franchetii is an evergreen shrub up to 2-3 m tall, with arched branches that bear obovate leaves 3-4 cm long, dark green on the upper surface and silvery on the lower surface. In summer it produces numerous apical inflorescences of a milky white color followed by ovoid red fruits, which persist on the plant throughout the winter until late spring, giving it a very decorative appearance.
Pedoclimatic requirements
It prefers fresh, moderately fertile and well-drained soils.
It can be grown in the sun or in partial shade. A fairly rustic species, it resists cold and frosts up to -8°/-10°C. This species does not tolerate prolonged drought and during the dry season it needs to be helped with support irrigation. It can be grown as a free hedge, isolated or in groups to create splashes of colour. It also resists pruning well but if grown in a forced form it does not express its fruiting to the maximum.
