Genus including about 150 species of perennial or annual succulents and evergreen succulent shrubs, which vary from dwarf plants to arboreal plants and are native to arid or dry areas, at high or low altitudes of Africa, Madagascar and Asia, but especially from South Africa. Crassula coccinea cv springtime is an evergreen suffruticosa succulent, generally prostrate, 20-30 cm high, with elliptical to ovate, pointed leaves, dull green in colour, often with red shades, up to 2.5 cm long. In late autumn it produces graceful umbel inflorescences with numerous small tubular flowers with white petals and bright red ovary which create a very decorative contrast.
Pedoclimatic needs
Being a small species, it is suitable for cultivation in pots or in small pockets of soil for rock gardens or dry stone walls. The growing soil must be moderately fertile to poor, well drained, in full sun. Non-rustic species that must be sheltered in a greenhouse or veranda where temperatures drop below 0°/-2°C.Botanical Information
