Davidia involucrata - handkerchief tree (Pot 20 cm)

Genus consisting of only 1 species of deciduous trees that grow in the woods of China. Large deciduous tree that can reach up to 18-20 m in height with a crown that is initially tapered, then open and expanded. The leaves are large and oval, with marked serrations and a light green colour. Flowering occurs after 10-15 years. A peculiarity of this tree is that during the spring season it produces numerous small inflorescences surrounded by large white bracts that resemble the edges of a handkerchief.

Pedoclimatic needs

It should be grown in deep, fresh and well-drained soil. Rustic plant that resists even prolonged frosts with minimum temperatures down to -13°/-15°C. It prefers exposure to sun or partial shade. Plant for cool and humid climates that does not tolerate drought; during the dry season it must be watered regularly.
