    Genus of about 30 species of evergreen trees and shrubs native to the woodlands of the Himalayas and eastern Asia. Eriobotrya japonica is a shrub or small evergreen tree with rounded foliage. It can reach 8-10 m in height. The leaves are lanceolate-elliptical, toothed, leathery, up to 30 cm long, dark green and shiny above, rust-colored below. Flowering occurs in late autumn with small white fragrant flowers with five petals gathered in triangular panicles. The edible fruits are ovoid and are harvested in spring, they are yellow-orange in colour, very tasty, juicy, sweet and with moderate acidity. The seeds are large and dark brown in color.

    Pedoclimatic needs

    It adapts to all types of soil as long as it is not asphyxiated, well drained and not too calcareous. It can be grown in full sun or partial shade with an exposure sheltered from strong winds. A fairly rustic plant, it resists not too prolonged and intense frosts down to -6°/-9°C.
