Genus of a few species of evergreen trees and shrubs belonging to the Myrtaceae family, widespread in tropical and south tropical areas of America, Africa, Asia. Eugenia uniflora is a shrub or small evergreen tree up to 6-8 m tall native to South America. Small opposite lanceolate leaves similar to those of myrtle, dark green in color, often with red tones. In autumn it produces numerous small spherical fruits, initially green and red when ripe. These have juicy pulp and a pleasant acidic flavor that vaguely resembles that of our cherries.
Pedoclimatic needs
It adapts to all types of soil, as long as it is fertile and well-drained, with the exception of those that are excessively alkaline or too clayey, while it prefers those with a neutral or sub-acid pH. It likes very bright exposure, preferably in full sun. It is not particularly resistant to low temperatures and can withstand temperatures as low as -2°/-4°C for short periods.Botanical Information
