Euphoria (syn. Dimocarpus) longana - longan (Square vase 9x9x20 cm)

Euphoria longana is a shrub or small evergreen tree with rounded foliage. It can reach 6-8 m in height. The dark green shiny leaves are compound, even pinnate, up to 20-30 cm long. Apical inflorescences form from the branches, followed by numerous small fruits gathered in bunches. These are edible, spherical in shape as large as cherries and have light brown leathery skin. The pulp is gelatinous, pinkish-white and resembles that of Lichi in flavor. Each fruit contains a single rather large dark brown seed.

Pedoclimatic needs

It adapts to all types of soil as long as it is not asphyxiated, well drained and not too calcareous. It can be grown in full sun or partial shade with an exposure sheltered from strong winds. Non-rustic tropical plant, it can be grown outdoors where temperatures never drop below +5°/+7°C.
