Gasteria verrucosa - gasteria (Square vase 9x9x10 cm)

Genus of 50-80 species of succulent perennial plants with acauli or very short stems, which generally multiply liberally forming large tufts in the flat, and sometimes hilly, areas of Namibia and South Africa. Gasteria verrucosa is a cespitose succulent with two rows of triangulated, linear-lanceolate, greyish green leaves, 10-15 cm long. Grooved above and convex below, pointed and flattened towards the blunt apices, with thickened margins and white tubercles. From the end of spring until summer it bears racemes of reddish orange flowers, up to 1.5 cm long. It can reach 15 cm in height.

Pedoclimatic needs

Grow in rich, very well-drained soil, with the addition of leaf mould, in full sun or partial shade. A non-rustic species, it can be grown in the ground in Mediterranean gardens where temperatures do not drop below zero. In colder climates it can be grown in pots and placed outdoors during spring and summer and sheltered during autumn and winter.
