Glycyrrhiza echinata - bristle liquorice (Square vase 9x9x13 cm)

Genus of approximately 20 species of perennial plants, originating from a wide range of humid or arid habitats in the Mediterranean regions, tropical Asia, and North and South America. Glycyrrhiza echinata is a perennial herbaceous plant up to 120-150 cm tall. Uneven-pinnate leaves borne on more or less erect herbaceous stems. From the small inflorescences of papilionaceous flowers, legumes covered with small thorns develop. The fleshy roots are used like common liquorice. During the winter the plant dries and only the roots remain viable which will send out new shoots the following spring.

Pedoclimatic needs

Soft and very draining soil with sunny or partial shade exposure. It resists cold (up to -10°/-14°C) and drought.
