Genus of 3 species of deciduous, dioecious shrubs and trees, native to Europe and Asia, which live on coastal dunes and in stony ground. Hippophae rhamnoides is a rapidly growing shrub or small deciduous tree up to 6-8 m tall. Thick, bushy foliage with thorny branches and opposite silvery green lanceolate leaves. The flowers are small, yellowish green in color and the fruits are small edible drupes which turn orange when ripe.
Pedoclimatic needs
It adapts to all types of soil, as long as it is humid. It resists wind and salt and can be planted near the sea. It likes a very bright exposure, preferably in full sun. Rustic plant, it adapts to even very cold climates, resisting minimum temperatures even below -18°/-20°c.Sowing
