Hylocereus undatus is a climbing cactus (epiphyte) up to 12 m tall that can attach itself to rocks or tree bark thanks to the adventitious roots that form from the succulent stems. The habit of these plants is generally climbing or drooping with numerous articulated stems with three dark green ribs. The flowers are up to 12-14 cm large and give off a pleasant sweetish odor. These remain alive for 2 days and open during the night. Its delicious fruits are the famous "dragon fruit" or "pytaia" up to 15 cm large, with a color that varies from pink to deep red and have a skin with numerous green bracts. The pulp is soft, sweet and fragrant, generally white with numerous small black seeds. This cultivar has fruits with fuchsia skin and dark red pulp.
Pedoclimatic needs
It adapts to all types of soil, preferring rich and well-drained ones. A bright exposure is recommended, but avoiding direct sunlight. A tropical species that is not very rustic and can be grown outdoors only in the citrus climate where temperatures never fall below +5°/+7°c.
