Genus that includes over 400 species of trees, shrubs and climbers, originating from the woods of tropical, subtropical and temperate regions, cultivated for their particularly elegant and pleasing to the eye leaves and brightly colored berries. Ilex verticillata is a slow-growing deciduous shrub up to 2-4 meters tall. It has a smooth, dark brown bark and 5-7 cm long leaves with a pointed apex and serrated margins. The fruits are globose red drupes that persist in winter on bare branches, giving the plant a pleasant appearance. Dioecious species.

Pedoclimatic needs

It adapts to all types of soil, preferring fresh and humid ones, but without water stagnation. It prefers an exposure in full sun or partial shade. Rustic species, it tolerates temperatures reaching -12°/-15°c.

Sowing

From autumn to early spring. Dormant seeds emerge 14-18 months after sowing.
