Genus of about 50 species of deciduous or evergreen shrubs and trees, present in the deciduous forests of the temperate and tropical regions of Asia and Australia. Lagerstroemia indica is a shrub or small deciduous tree with a bushy habit up to 6-8 m tall. The bark is very beautiful in adult specimens and is flaking, light brown in color tending towards pink. Small leaves 2-3c m obovate to oblong, dark green in tone, and take on magnificent red tones in autumn before fall. From the end of spring to summer the beautiful flowers bloom, which can be white, pink, red and purple, collected in apical panicles. This cultivar has scarlet red flowers.
Pedoclimatic needs
Grow in moderately fertile, well-drained soil in full sun. Fairly rustic species, it resists temperatures down to -10°/-14°C. The adult plants are fairly drought resistant and can be used for low maintenance parks and gardens.Botanical Information
