Genus of about 50 species of deciduous or evergreen shrubs and trees, present in the broadleaf forests of the temperate and tropical regions of Asia and Australia. Lagerstroemia indica is a shrub or small deciduous tree with a bushy habit up to 6-8 m tall. The bark is very beautiful in adult specimens and is flaky, light brown tending to pink. Small leaves 2-3c m from obovate to oblong, of dark green shade, and take on magnificent red shades in autumn before falling. From late spring to summer the beautiful flowers bloom that can be white, pink, red and purple gathered in apical panicles. This cultivar has light pink flowers.
Pedoclimatic requirements
Grow in moderately fertile, well-drained soil, in full sun. Fairly rustic species, it resists temperatures down to -10°/-14°C. Adult plants are fairly drought-resistant and can be used for low-maintenance parks and gardens.
