Livistona chinensis - Chinese fan (Vase 18 cm)

Genus of 28 species of single-stemmed palms that grow along streams and in swamps, forests and ravines in the warmer areas of Asia and Australia. Livistona chinensis is a beautiful, moderately growing palm, with a thin trunk (20-30 cm in diameter), which can reach a height of 7-8 m. The lush foliage reaches a width of 3 m and is made up of palmate-reniform leaves up to 2.5 m long and light green in colour. The petiole is equipped with brown thorny protuberances. The fruits are small dates gathered in large clusters, very decorative, which when ripe are bluish green in color.

Pedoclimatic needs

It prefers fertile, well-drained soil. It adapts to being grown both in the sun and in partial shade. During the dry season it benefits from regular watering. This palm is not very rustic and cannot tolerate intense and prolonged frosts. It can be raised outdoors where temperatures do not drop below -1°/-3°c.
