    Altezza della pianta: 60-100cm cm
Genus of about 125 species of deciduous or evergreen trees and shrubs found in the woods and scrublands of the Himalayas, Asia, North and South America. Magnolia grandiflora is a splendid evergreen tree which in optimal conditions reaches 25-30 m in height with very expansive foliage. The trunk and branches have smooth, dark bark. The leaves are lanceolate, leathery, with marked veining and reach 20 cm in size. In some varieties the leaves have a brown underside. In late spring numerous flowers appear which are up to 30 cm large and creamy white in colour. These develop at the apex of each branch, are solitary, short-lived but intensely scented; their fragrance is so strong and intoxicating that it is not recommended to place them in closed environments, especially in bedrooms. The fruits, which are similar to pine cones, release the red seeds in autumn, which are very attractive in this season.

    Pedoclimatic needs

It should be planted in fresh, deep, well-drained soil with low limestone content. It can be grown in full sun or partial shade. Fairly rustic plant withstands temperatures up to -10°/-12°c. Due to its magnificent foliage and enchanting flowering, it is widely used in parks and large gardens. It requires large spaces to allow the foliage to develop freely. This species is also very suitable for topiary.
