Metasequoia glyptostroboides - water fir (Pot 22 cm)

Descriptions Genus of a single species of trees, from the forests of the valleys of central China. It is a large deciduous conifer that can reach 30-35 meters in height. The foliage has a pyramidal shape, with opposite needle-like leaves of a bright green color that turn brown in autumn. In spring it produces male cones gathered in long ears and globose cylindrical female cones. Erroneously considered extinct, some specimens were found in the mid-1940s in some remote Chinese regions.

Pedoclimatic needs

It adapts to any type of soil, preferring well-drained ones, but it can also be grown in very humid ones and near rivers. It prefers full sun and possibly sheltered exposure. When dormant, the plant is rustic, withstanding temperatures reaching -20°/-25°C, but fears early autumn or late spring frosts.
