From mid to late summer it produces numerous solitary flowers, with 5 petals, with showy central tufts of white stamens; the flowers are followed by oblong-ellipsoid, purple-black berries which are also very fragrant; used in the kitchen to flavor dishes and for the preparation of excellent liqueurs. It can reach 2-4 m in height.
