Altezza della pianta: 3-8pmcm

Genus of about 20 species of evergreen tree succulents, closely related to Beaucarnea. They grow in semi-desert areas and bushland from the southern United States to Guatemala. Noliona breviflora initially has a slightly branched stem up to 4-5 m high, while in adult specimens it can have several branches. In the stem the plant accumulates water as a reserve source for the dry season. The initially smooth stem cracks with age and forms characteristic, very attractive suberescent growths. At the ends of the branches there are tufts of thin linear leaves, not very curved, of a glaucous green colour, up to 80-100 cm long with a finely serrated margin which is sharp to the touch. After 15-20 years the plant produces creamy white flowers collected in terminal panicles in spring. After flowering, the plant does not die but produces one or more shoots from the apex, thus starting the branching process.

Pedoclimatic needs

Fairly rustic plant that tolerates frost. It can be bred outdoors in the olive climate, where temperatures do not fall below -6°/-8°C. Being a slow-growing species, it is suitable for cultivation in pots. Particularly decorative plant due to its suberous stem surmounted by elegant tufts of curved leaves. Grow in fertile, well-drained soil, in full sun. During the dry season it tolerates drought well, although it benefits from regular irrigation, waiting for the earth to dry between one administration and another.
