Genus of 12 species of deciduous or evergreen shrubs and trees from savannahs and dry scrublands of the driest regions of Africa, southern North Africa and Central America. Parkinsonia aculeata is a small thorny tree that reaches a maximum height of about 10 m. The leaves are alternate and pinnate, it has yellow-orange flowers that bloom in summer, while the pod fruits ripen at the beginning of autumn.
Pedoclimatic needs
It adapts to all types of soil, preferring sandy and well-drained ones. Water only in hot weather. Prefers sunny exposure. Not very rustic species, it cannot tolerate intense and prolonged frosts and minimum temperatures above 0°/-2°C.Botanical Information
