Genus of about 10 species of deciduous, tendril-bearing climbers from the forests of the Himalayas, eastern Asia and North America. Panthenocissus quinquefolia is a deciduous climbing plant that can reach a height of 15-20 metres. The leaves are palmate, glabrous, with a long petiole. They have a dull green color, but turn a beautiful deep red color in autumn. The flowers, inconspicuous, are greenish in color. It produces very decorative grape-like clusters with bluish berries and burgundy-red stems. The fruits are not edible.
