Altezza della pianta: 10-15 cm
Genus of 17 species of single or multiple trunk palms originating mainly from the tropical or subtropical forest or low scrubland of the Canary Islands, Africa, Crete, western and southern Asia up to the Philippines. The phoenix dactylifera is a dioecious palm with a single trunk or sometimes branched from the base. Columnar stem, erect, covered by the bases of the old leaves towards the apex. The leaves are composed of many linear, greyish green leaflets, the lower ones reduced to thorns, arranged on various planes giving a three-dimensional effect. In spring or summer it produces long-stalked panicles of large-cup cream flowers. The ellipsoidal or cylindrical fruits are edible, sweet, fleshy, yellow to reddish brown, 2.5-7 cm long with varied flavor and texture. It can reach 30 meters in height. The Deglet Nour cultivar has medium-sized orange-amber fruits with a soft, sweet, honey-like taste.

Pedoclimatic needs

It adapts to any type of soil, as long as it is fertile and free of water stagnation. It requires sunny exposures and resists strong winds and salt. Not very rustic species, it resists only short frosts, withstanding temperatures reaching -2°/-4°c. It benefits from regular watering during the summer.
