Genus of 17 species of single or multiple trunk palms originating mainly from the tropical or subtropical forest or low scrubland of the Canary Islands, Africa, Crete, western and southern Asia up to the Philippines. The reclining phoenix is a dioecious palm up to 12 m tall, solitary or more often caespitose, forming large groups. It has curved pinnate green leaves grouped at the apex of the stem. The fruits, yellow-orange in colour, form characteristic, very attractive bunches.
Pedoclimatic needs
It adapts to all types of soil, even periodically stagnant and swampy ones. In the natural habitat it also grows along rivers or in marshes, which is why the roots are often found in water and therefore tolerate temporary stagnation in cultivation. It can be grown in full sun and is not very resistant to cold temperatures down to 0°/-3°C for short periods.Botanical Information
